Toyota-Prius-Product Recall

Toyota is to recall about 400,000 Prius and other gas-electric hybrid cars worldwide for brake problems.

The braking problem for the third-generation remodelled Prius is the latest safety woe for Toyota, which is already trying to fix problems in millions of vehicles recalled for other defects-which includes a accelerator default.

In total, the recall involves over 223,000 hybrid cars. Toyota will recall nearly 200,000 Priuses sold in Japan from April last year until Monday.

There have been nearly 200 complaints in Japan and the US of drivers experiencing a short delay before the brakes kick in.

The delay does not indicate a brake failure. A fix requires new software that oversees the controls of the antilock brakes.

The two other hybrids being recalled are the Lexus HS250h sedan, sold in the US and Japan, and the Sai, which is sold only in Japan.

Reliance Retail – New Business Model

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail has devised a new business model, under which it will open small outlets at the premises of large corporates.

The company, which is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, will soon approach big corporate houses with this proposal to implement the novel business plan.

Elaborating on the new business model, the official said that RRL envisages an employee-friendly retail format. It will provide price discounts to employees in these stores.

In the first phase, RRL plans to open Reliance TimeOut Stores, engaged in books and music retailing business, beginning in Mumbai and Delhi.

RRL plans to open a total of 45 Reliance TimeOut across the country over the next three to five years in four states – mainly in western and southern India.

The company wants to tap the country’s Rs3,500-crore book retailing industry, of which only 40% is organised.
